Fragmentary thoughts on drawing By soonim Kim Drawing is like words. I can do it anytime and anywhere consciously or unconsciously. I can do this at times unrestrictedly and elegantly, at times roughly, delicately and carefully. I can do this in a well-furnished space, on the street, in a car, in a re- stroom, or even while sleeping. Drawing presents the how and what of significance. Spoken words disappear, or are left as writing, novels, or dissertations. Words are the sources of all these character mediums. Anyone can speak words as all can draw. I draw persons i met on streets and the streets in the dialect of my village and words i learned on the streets. Thread and needle are my language, and the natural materials i find are my voice. For me, drawing are my words i can do anytime and anywhere, with anything, alone or with others, by shouting, whispering, lecturing, or grumbling.
