매향리 옛 미군부지에서 6일간 작업, 2014, 설치 및 영상기록

The project, manifested through an installation and a projected image documentation, was carried out for six days in 2014 at a former United States Forces Korea camp in Maehyang-ri.

그 자리

척박하고 상처받은 땅 한 곳에 자리잡고 앉는다.

6일간 이 자리에 거주하며 땅 안의 돌을 땅 밖으로 보낸다.

어떤 오브제도 다른 곳에서 가져오지 않고, 온전히 작가의 시간과 노동, 마음과 정성으로 땅을 만진다.

온전히 이 자리에 살면서 이 땅을 만지고 쓰다듬어 부드러운 흙을 안에 쌓고, 거친 돌을 밖에 쌓아 살던 곳과 아닌 곳의 경계를 만든다.

사람이 살면서 그러하듯이..

이 거친 땅에 아끼던 이가 가꿔놓은 부드럽고 작은 빈 공간은 그가 떠난 후 또 누군가 무언가 살 공간이 될 것이고, 또 그들은 그 아끼던 이가 그러했듯이 마음을 다해 공간에서 생존할 것이다.

사람이 살면서 그러하듯이..

땅은 그렇게 살아있는 것들의 삶을 품는다.

삶은 그렇게 머물고 떠나고 또 머물고 또 떠난다

나의 짧은 머묾이 만든 작은 빈 공간이 이곳의 마음들을 품기 바라며….

The Seat

_Artist note

The artist sits down in one place amid a barren and wounded landscape. While staying in the same place for six days, she places stones upon the surrounding earth. Without introducing any objects from elsewhere, the artist only touches the earth with her time, labor, heart, and effort. While living in this place, she creates a boundary between her habitable space and the rest of the world, touching and stroking the ground as she piles up soft soil inside and tough stones outside. Just as humans do in their own lives, the small and empty space carved out of rough soil that has been tended by someone may become a space for another person or thing to live in later, while exerting their best effort to survive.

The earth embraces creatures’ lives that way. Life stays for a while, leaves, and then repeats. I hope that the small and empty space created by my short stay could embrace future hearts in this place. (2014)
